Your Nickel Catalysis Toolbox
Well-defined homogeneous nickel complexes for fine chemical synthesis
WE ARE NICKEL CATALYSIS SPECIALISTS
Nickel catalysis enables the synthesis of agrochemicals, fine chemicals, and pharmaceuticals in new, more efficient, and more sustainable ways. Find out about our mission to bring our platform of well-defined nickel catalysis to end users across these industries.
New reactivity
Our nickel catalysts enable access to the range of new reactivity that nickel offers, enabling creative routes to synthesise the chemical products that our modern lives depend on.
TUNABLE CATALYSIS
Our catalysts are available with virtually any ligand attached: we have tens of examples available now, and can work with you to develop new and bespoke catalysts for your applications.
sustainable synthesis
Nickel is obtained with much lower environmental impact than palladium: producing grams not kilograms of CO2 equivalents. We can help you decrease the scope three emissions of your chemical manufacturing activities.
we can deliver
Nickel is available on every continent of the planet, and its price is lower and less volatile than that of palladium. We will work with you to put in place a robust supply chain so that you can deploy our products with confidence.
MEET US
Our Team

Elliot Johnson Humphrey
Chief Technology Officer
Elliot is our resident organometallic chemist, and the discoverer of the CataNiTek platform technology. He holds an MChem in Chemistry from the University of East Anglia, and then moved to the University of Strathclyde to complete his PhD. Since 2022 he has been working on the commercialisation of the CataNiTek product portfolio.

Roderick Bunschoten
Principal Chemist
Roderick is our synthetic and analytical chemistry expert. After completing his degree in the Netherlands and holding a number of laboratory-based jobs, he joined the University of Strathclyde to undertake his PhD. Since 2023 he has been working as a core member of the CataNiTek team to explore the potential of our products.

David Nelson
Chief Scientific Officer
An experienced academic chemist, David is a member of the faculty in the Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde. He holds an MChem degree from the University of Edinburgh, a PhD in Pure and Applied Chemistry from the University of Strathclyde, and a PGDip in Academic Practice. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Higher Education Academy.

Tom Bell
Chief Executive Officer
Tom is a commercial expert with almost thirty years of experience in supporting innovative companies, including university spin-outs, leveraging his substantial skill set in business development. Tom joined the CataNiTek team in late 2024 to support the spin out process and the initial phases of commercial activity.

Joe Carey
Chair of the Board
Joe has over forty years of experience in the chemical industry, both in large multinational companies and within startups and smaller companies. He has been the CEO of Key Organics since 2012, and completed a management buy-out of the company in 2025. He brings his enormous wealth of commercial experience to CataNiTek as Chair of our Board.
